The Library

Library

The Christchurch Girls’ High School Library is centrally placed on Level 1 off the student foyer. It is open 8am to 4pm each school day. Students are welcome to use the library at interval, lunchtimes and after school.

Library staff  are always available to help with requests for reading and research, for recreation or class work.

The library holds a generous collection of general and senior fiction, non-fiction, audiovisual resources and periodicals.

The library plays an integral part in the information literacy and reading programmes throughout the curriculum.

The Library Catalogue – accesses details of our wide range of resources.
The Library Website - gives easy access to search engines, on-line databases and encyclopaedias.

Archives - Please note: The school archived records are available in a limited capacity.

Student Librarians – a huge team of student volunteers help in the library, at the same time gaining valuable skills. Their service is acknowledged by a series of prestigious badge awards.

The Library Committee is a team of year 11-13 librarians responsible for the organisation of events like Book Week.

Book Week is long standing CGHS tradition. Form classes raise money and select books to donate to the library. The library is transformed into a book set .Visiting authors run open readings and workshops. Book Day is one of the most colourful days in the school year. Students and staff dress up as book characters and our Book Day assembly unashamedly celebrates books.
