1st XV Rugby Success

Christchurch Girls’ High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora carved out our most impressive victory of our South Island campaign at Logan Park last Friday in Dunedin against Columba college.

Our team got off to a flying head start, with co-captain Riko touching down in the first 20 seconds. Our gutsy forward pack led by co-captain Maelle worked hard throughout the game, protecting the ball around the ruck and breaking the defence line multiple times with their punishing runs. The backs suffocated the Columba attack line and effectively shut down their space- making their presence and ‘shoulders’ known with their strong and consistent defence. The plucky Columba side managed to score just once, our Christchurch Girls’ High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora sisterhood proving too strong,  playing with relentless mana to win the South Island championship 78-7.

Fa’afetai tele lava to Colomba for the awesome hospitality, to our bus driver Charles for putting up with our hyena laughing, and a special thank you to our beautiful coaches and managers for the support and whānau for taking the time to drive down and watch our game. To our Christchurch Girls’ High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora First XV Mana wāhine, a massive mihi for your hard work so far- let’s level up- top 4 here we come! Ka mau te wehi!
