Applications now open for the 2026 Elaine P. Snowden Astronomy School
Are you a Year 13 student in 2026 passionate about the mysteries of space, stars, and the universe? The Elaine P. Snowden Astronomy School is your chance to experience astronomy and physics up close from 12–17 April 2026.
This week-long programme combines seminars and hands-on practical work, including a visit to UC’s Mt John Observatory at Takapō | Tekapo, where students explore our cosmic neighbourhood using modern astronomical instruments. Back at the University of Canterbury, participants learn about topics such as the life cycles of stars, planet exploration, extraterrestrial life, and the universe’s evolution.
A highlight for many is the chance to connect with like-minded students and form lasting friendships.
Thanks to a generous private donation, the Elaine P. Snowden Astronomy School is completely free for successful applicants, including accommodation, meals, materials, and local transport during the camp.
