Applications to enrol at UC for 2025 open on Tuesday 1 October.
It’s a great time to remind your Year 13 students to apply during the school holidays – that way, they’ll have one less thing on their minds in the lead up to exams.
They can apply online via a myUC account, which they’ll need to create if they don’t already have one. To complete their application, they’ll need to select a qualification, their year of study and the first-year courses they wish to enrol in.
Many students have already started their application to enrol and received a conditional offer – they will still need to complete their application by adding in the courses they will take in their first year.
To get started, all they need to do is head to our website and click ‘Apply Now’.
If they aren’t sure what to study or which courses to pick, they can get course advice or assistance by booking an appointment online or calling 0800 VARSITY (0800 827 748) and asking to speak with me.

– Once they’ve completed their application to enrol, they will be sent a ‘conditional offer’ if we are waiting to learn if they’ve gained University Entrance (UE).
– Students who applied for scholarships and/or accommodation will be notified of any offers in October during the school holidays. These messages (which sometimes get diverted to the Spam folder) specify what they need to do to accept or decline their offer(s).
– Students should apply for StudyLink before 16 December 2024 if they require a student loan or allowance in 2025.
– When exam results are released in mid-January, students who gain UE will receive an ‘offer of place’ letter and Enrolment Agreement. They’ll need to accept or decline their offer via myUC and indicate how they will pay their fees.

– Students who don’t get UE will have various pathway options available, such as gaining a few credits through school, via Hagley College or via distance study in January/early February.
– For those who miss UE by more than just a few credits, UC’s Certificate in University Preparation enables students to spend their first semester gaining essential skills in oral and written communication, problem-solving, information literacy and more. Students who successfully complete the programme will be eligible to apply for entry to 100-level degree courses at UC in Semester 2.
– On 14 February 2025, students and their whānau will be welcomed to UC at Herea tō waka | Welcome Day and given vital tips for success and how to deal with challenges.
– Most lectures begin on 17 February 2025 but some students, such as those in Teaching, start earlier.
– Many students will decide to change courses in the first couple of weeks of semester – this is quite common, so they can just contact our first year advisors if they need help to change something.
As always, I’m happy to talk with any of your students and answer their questions at any stage. Please pass on my details to anyone requiring assistance.
Ngā mihi
