Rosa Sidey

Kia Ora everyone, my name is Rosa Sidey and I have the pleasure of being the Head of Acland House for 2024!

Describe yourself in three words:
I would best describe myself as thoughtful, hard-working and creative.

What extracurricular activities or clubs do you participate in at school, and what do you find most enjoyable about them?

This year, the year 13 Acland year group decided to put together a social netball team. Playing all together during our final year has allowed us to reflect on our time both at Acland House and at Christchurch Girls High School, and appreciate all the relationships that we have formed over the last five years. For me, being a part of this team has been a way to put all else aside and enjoy my final moments of high school.

Can you describe some positive or memorable experiences you’ve had at CGHS.

Throughout my time at CGHS, I have been lucky to be a part of many memorable experiences that the school has celebrated. Each year, as I sit my final exam I feel a sense of pride in knowing that I have given that year everything I have, and I’ve studied as hard as I could for the NCEA exams. This feeling is one that I hope I remember during my life after high school. Earlier this year, I was grateful enough to be in Twizel on the side of Lake Ruataniwha as the CGHS under 18 eight came away with the Levin Jubilee Cup for the first time in history. Being amongst the celebration of this incredible achievement is definitely something that I will remember when looking back on my time at Christchurch Girls High School.

What are your favourite subjects at school and why do you enjoy them?

Over my time at CGHS, it’s fair to say that I’ve taken a wide range of subjects. Of those, I think the ones that I’ve enjoyed the most and taken the most from are Māori, English and Biology. I have taken these three subjects the whole way through and have learnt so much from each of them. As someone who has more of a literacy based way of thinking, these subjects have come rather naturally to me, meaning that I can enjoy them, as well as give them a pretty decent go. CGHS has also provided me with amazing teachers within these subjects, which also contribute to my passion for them.
