What extracurricular activities or clubs do you participate in at school, and what do you find most enjoyable about them?

Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora has an abundant amount to offer when it comes to extracurricular activities and clubs. Throughout my time at CGHS I have been involved in numerous activities because I believe it is important to get involved and be a part of something you are passionate about. I participate in the CGHS Cantrices choir as well as being a past hockey player. Drama committee, Student council, Whānau committee, Kapahaka, Sport groups  and Peer support are some more things I am passionately involved in. These activities provide me with a sense of belonging and teach life lessons to follow my passions and foster lasting connections, immersing myself in all they have to offer. Most notably, I have loved being in the CGHS choir. This is because being in this group has given me lasting friendships while allowing me to follow my passions and connect with others, which is something I value. Activities such as this have taught me the value of hardwork and determination while remembering to always have fun and be positive.

am grateful for these opportunities because they provide me with a way to get involved and make the most of CGHS, and they positively influence my life.

Can you describe some positive or memorable experiences you’ve had at CGHS.

My time at Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora has been filled with so many positive and memorable experiences. One in particular that stands out would be when the choir attended the ‘South Island Cadenza’ in Timaru. This was an amazing 2 day event that blended an adjudicated competition with choral rehearsals, culminating in a gala concert and awards. We are proud to know that we were one of the top 3 choirs at this competition and it was an amazing time. This was a memorable and positive experience because I got to meet so many new people and it was a great way to celebrate all of our hard work and determination. This competition inspired people and my love for the arts, also demonstrating that you must always follow your passions and be resilient. I was able to spend time with peers and forge amazing friendships and connections with so many people, while making unforgettable memories doing what I love. I will be forever grateful for this positive and memorable experience.

What are your favourite subjects at school and why do you enjoy them?

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my subjects during my time at school. Each of the many subjects on offer at CGHS cover varied aspects and allow something that resonates with everyone. My personal favourites include Biology, Te Reo Māori, English, Maths and Drama. These involve writing, researching and learning. Te Reo Māori is a favourite of mine because it allows me to learn about Te Ao Māori and connect with the culture and language which I believe is important to celebrate. I enjoy Maths because it teaches resilience and I also enjoy problem solving and a positive challenge. Drama is enjoyable because it allows me to be creative and it builds important skills like confidence and cooperation. All of these subjects allow me to express myself and my interests.

Ngā mihi nui,
