What extracurricular activities or clubs do you participate in at school, and what do you find most enjoyable about them?
Throughout my time at CGHS I have been part of various clubs, committees and extracurricular activities. Most notably, I have really enjoyed being a part of the Animal Welfare Committee, and working with like-minded peers to carry out can drives and fundraisers dedicated towards helping organisations such as the SPCA. I have always had an interest in animals, so being able to join this committee in 2023 was something I was very excited about. Another extracurricular activity I enjoy is debating. I have been debating with CGHS since year 9, and although I sometimes find it challenging, I love how it pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me to become more confident within myself.
Can you describe some positive or memorable experiences you’ve had at CGHS.
One of the most memorable experiences I have had at CGHS is being a member of the rowing team for three years, and attending the 2021 Aon Maadi Cup as a coxswain. Attending the Maadi Cup is an event like no other, and I was fortunate enough to attend the event when it was held at Lake Karapiro in the North Island. I got to meet so many different people from across Aotearoa, forge amazing friendships and bonds with my fellow CGHS teammates, and make memories I can never forget, all while getting the chance to compete at a National level. It is an experience that I will forever be grateful to CGHS for. To be honest, just everyday life at CGHS has also been memorable. Attending CGHS allowed me to meet and form friendships with many different people. I look forward to going to school everyday to see my teachers, talk way too much with my friends, go to my favourite classes, and of course, make sneaky trips to the canteen during my study periods.
What are your favourite subjects at school and why do you enjoy them?
While I have enjoyed all of the subjects I have done at Christchurch Girl’s High School, my favourite would have to be Chemistry. I love how Chemistry has the perfect balance between long answer questions, and equations. Chemistry is also a super rewarding subject to take, as the concepts and workload can feel challenging, but finally understanding and applying the concepts makes you feel good.
