Victoria University HIWA programme 2023
HIWA is a week-long scholarship programme for Māori students in their final year of study at a NZ secondary school/wharekura.
The purpose of this programme is to experience being a student at Victoria University as well as living in Wellington City. Throughout the week, students will attend different workshops with key staff on campus, explore halls of residence, connect with on-campus support and explore all the cool things you can do in Wellington (and they’ll get to attend Open Day).
When is it? The programme takes place from Tuesday 23 August to Saturday 27 August.
Who is eligible?
Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the programme:
- Be of Māori descent
- Be on track to achieving university entrance
- Be in their final year at a NZ secondary school/wharekura based outside of the Wellington Region
- Be available on the given dates (22-26th August) for the entire programme (includes the Victoria University open day)
When is it?
This year’s programme will take place from Tuesday, 22 August – Saturday 26 August.
Does it cost the student?
No, this programme will be paid for (flights, accommodation, food etc.). They will need to bring money if they want to buy other things.
