Volunteering Canterbury — volunteers wanted for upcoming events

WANTED!!

Volunteering Canterbury is looking for a team to support its site at the upcoming Culture Galore event – Saturday 17 February 2024, at Ray Blank Park.  The event starts at midday and finishes at 4pm, so there are two shifts available : 11am to 1.30pm and 1.30pm pm to 4.30pm.  First shift will be helping with set up, and second with packdown!  Grab some friends and make up a group (up to four people) and join us for the morning or the afternoon or the whole day!

What will you be doing?  Well, this year we will be launching our WoO!  Yes, it’s a WoO!  A Wheel of Opportunity – check out the pic.  We will be inviting people to give the WoO a spin and see what roles might be available where they ‘land’ … we might also do some rock painting with the youngsters too (weather permitting!!)

Conservation Project
Organisation : NZ Conservation Trust
Location: McLean’s Island
Date: Saturday 10 February 2024, 10am to 12 midday
Not a large area, but it needs weeding to make a good habitat for the boulder copper butterfly to live and breed in.  Their larva is only found on the low growing Muehlenbeckia axillaris which is being invaded by weeds – the aim is to clear the weeds as much as possible so the plant can grow.  Bring gloves and a drink bottle and any weeding tools you might have!  More inform from Janet!
