WHAT IS AN EPIDEMIOLOGIST?
Epidemiologists study diseases in humans or animals to determine their cause and patterns. This allows Epidemiologists to develop methods of outbreak detection and control. Epidemiologists may work alongside the government during disease outbreaks to provide information on how best to ensure the safety of the population.
Epidemiologists must hold a valid Bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Veterinary Science or a similar field. Holding a Master’s degree or Doctoral degree in Public Health will also increase employability.
To gain these qualifications, at NCEA level, it is important to take Biology, Chemistry, English, Maths and Physics.
